Empty.

Yesterday morning, Pastor Bryan Loritts taught on emptiness. He didn't talk about the emptiness of man so much as the emptiness of things. I am more aware every day that we live in a culture that is saturated in emptiness. This saturation comes to us masquerading as money, possessions, people, etc. And it's ridiculously obvious, as well, when you see someone who is living this type of life. All they want is that new car, that new smartphone or some lump some of cash, which they honestly believe will make them happy. Sadly though, it never is enough. It is for this reason that the families in the United States are falling apart, more every day. That person who someone believe would finally satisfy them isn't who they pretended to be during the premarital relationship. That certain dollar amount that would seem to satisfy, unfortunately isn't enough. These things are clearly what the Bible would refer to as idols, even though they are not wooden, carved figures. However, they are just as real and just as deadly. Can you imagine growing up worshipping a piece of wood, just to one day find out that it wasn't really a god or even a representation of a god? It would probably be a hard pill to swallow, yet people experience it everyday. They bow down to some person or thing in their life and when they find out it's not enough, it seems as though the world is crashing down on them.
I've always found it interesting though that everything that a person can create with his hands will ultimately break. And every person that is born will eventually die. Nothing that we see around us will last. So why do we put our trust in it? My car will be paid off within a month. Unfortunately that will break too. (And probably sooner than I would like, lol) It reminds me of a quote by the great Clives Staples (C.S.) Lewis: "If I find in myself a desire which no experience in this world can satisfy, the most probably explanation is that I was made for another world." We are looking for this satisfaction, but no one has found it yet in this world, except for those who seek to fill this satisfaction with that which is not of this world. But it is of the God that created this entire universe. True satisfaction comes only through Christ's forgiveness and acceptance. If you seek after satisfaction through people or objects, you might as well be praying to a stick. Soli Deo Gloria.

(Hello to all of my new readers, lol.)
